Refuge and Safe Houses

YOU First support people to access crisis accommodation and we have approximately 90 rooms in 13 houses.

Everyone who needs this service gets a warm welcome at all our refuges and safe houses.  Some of these refuges offer self-contained flats and others have bedsit style rooms with some type of communal shared facilities such as equipped kitchens, laundry and TV rooms – all have either a children’s room or play space and garden area.

We believe that it is important for wellbeing and empowerment that refuge and safe house accommodation is short-term and temporary whilst more permanent solutions are being sourced.

Within the refuge YOU First have a team of workers who are there to offer emotional and practical support – children are offered support via the children workers.  When a person comes to a refuge they are matched with a key worker and together they discuss concerns, co-produce support plans focussed on;

  • Goals and aspirations
  • Risk assessments and safety planning
  • Maximising income
  • Increasing confidence
  • Sourcing alternative housing
  • Securing legal options to return home
  • Supporting to maintain your licence within refuge
  • Introduction to the community
  • Identifying any other support requirements and linking with other agencies
