A trip to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard gives Peter, a resident at our Serpentine residence, a day full of independence, exploration, and unforgettable memories. A huge thank you to Denise, one of our dedicated support workers, for giving Peter such a great time. This trip was especially meaningful for Peter because earlier this year he proudly bought his own dockyard pass. This was something he was excited about and was encouraged as it helps strengthen confidence and independence. Denise also has a pass which made planning a shared visit easy and enjoyable.
The day was planned around Peter’s interests. Peter and Denise talked about what they both wanted to do before and planned accordingly. They quickly agreed on one key highlight, the dockyard boat trip.
Starting the day with shared enthusiasm helped create a positive atmosphere. It also ensured the experience was meaningful for Peter.
When they arrived, Peter’s excitement was clear. The Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth offers plenty to explore. Peter engaged fully with his surroundings and enjoyed each moment, especially a fun highlight when they discovered a TARDIS! This sparked Peter’s imagination straight away; he loved it!
He asked, “Is Doctor Who here today?”
It was a light-hearted moment that added even more enjoyment to the day.
Peter and Denise travelled by bus from Waterlooville to Portsmouth. Although the journey was longer, Peter enjoyed every moment. The route over Portsdown Hill offered stunning coastal views.
Peter took in the scenery with interest and showed curiosity and appreciation for the landscape. This turned the journey into part of the experience, not just travel time.

A day to remember
This trip was more than just a day out. It was a chance for Peter to enjoy independence, explore his interests, and create positive memories. From the scenic journey to the boat trip, every part of the day was tailored to him. Even the surprise TARDIS added something special. It shows how supported outings and person-centred care can have a real impact on people.
If you’d like to help support the people we work with, let us know. We’re currently raising funds to renovate the gardens at four of our residences to make them enjoyable for summer.
