Aiden goes Into Work through our service! The service helps people with learning difficulties gain employment. It’s important for our mental health and self-esteem to feel valued. And we can get this from volunteering and working. Knowing that what you do makes a difference to others is great! Which is why we help people achieve their goals.
Aiden was referred to the Portsmouth Into Work service by his social worker at the Kestrel LD team. Aiden had tried applying for jobs before but found this difficult due to all of the paperwork and online applications.
At the time of referring, Aiden was a supported volunteer at the Waterfront Garden Centre. He also here helped out the Portsmouth City Council Parks team. Aiden really enjoyed working alongside the parks team and asked us to look into any similar paid roles.
Our team approached Portsmouth City Council Green and Clean Team, who were very supportive. Annabelle, an Into Work employment worker, supported Aiden with a range of things. Like:
- creating a CV
- signing up for Portsmouth City Council’s in-house agency
- paperwork
- support at the Interview
Throughout the process, Annabelle has supported both the employer and Aiden and conducted regular reviews to ensure everyone was happy. Aiden has now been in his role for half a year. He’s enjoying working alongside colleagues, cleaning the tower blocks, getting out in the community with the trollies, and working with the mobile team out in the vans.
“Into Work have helped me to find a paid job with a friendly and supportive team. I really enjoy the work I do and after so long it is great to feel valued in a paid job.’ Aiden
