Support workers really are absolutely fantastic people because they help others in so many ways. From helping to develop their self-esteem and confidence to practical, day-to-day skills, they give so much. This week is Professional Care Workers’ Week, and we’re celebrating all the work they do. And the effort and innovation they show daily is also worthy of praise.
Our teams enjoy taking part in many activities, and this year’s Big Hoot 2024 challenge was… Well… a hoot! (sorry, not sorry). Their mission was to find all the arty owls in Chichester and Arundel, and mark them off on their map.
Across Chichester and Arundel, they went in search of beautifully sculptured, bigger than-life owls! The Big Hoot Trail is a public art trail in its 21st year and raises money for your local children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House.
Becci, our Team Manager for our Disability Supported Living service, had this to share with us. Thanks, Becci!
Big Hoot 2024 challenge
My support team are always up for a challenge, and this summer that’s exactly what they got!
The Big Hoot across Chichester and Arundel is run all summer. So, my team and all of their service users put plans together and off they went. Some using the interactive app and some with a paper map, they set about to find all of the colourful owls. Our three residences, Old Timbers, Tamarine and Brierwood, participated.
This became a big talking point across all the services, and day-by-day, pictures of all their adventures started to fill the challenge board. Credit to the staff team’s competitiveness and enthusiasm. You can see by all the pictures and selfies that were taken it certainly shines through. Their motivation and encouragement helped some of our service users to produced their own owls. Which are amazing and proudly on display in their homes for all to see.
Graham even painted his own owl!
Some large and some small. Some easy to find, and some not so easy. The Challenge Board soon filled up and all our houses enjoyed finding them.
