DVA Police Car Domestic Violence and Abuse Worker

Location: North Hampshire – Basingstoke, Hart & Rushmoor

Salary: £16,201 per annum for 30hrs per week

Contract Type: Permanent Contract

We are pleased to announce that we have a vacancy within our team to deliver the Aurora New Dawn DVA Cars project which has been funded by the Big Lottery.

The Role

This exciting and innovative role will see You First DVA Workers attending incidents of domestic violence and abuse in partnership with the police. The experienced and skilled post holder will offer practical and emotional support at the point of crisis to individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse. They will work in partnership with Police officers from Hampshire Constabulary to provide a pro-active, short-term crisis intervention as part of the DVA Cars service.

The two role holders will work across a two week rota for 30 hrs per week. Week 1 will consist of working Friday and Saturday eve/nights from 17:00 to 03:00hrs with the remaining 10 hours worked during office hours. Week 2 will consist of working the hours across Monday – Friday situated primarily within the investigation unit in the police force.   As well as initial contact you will process onward referrals to ensure clients are referred into appropriate long term support as required.

Essential Requirements

The ideal DVA Car Domestic Violence and Abuse Worker will have:

  • Experience of working with people experiencing domestic abuse, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience of working with other agencies in partnership, whether statutory or voluntary
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children
  • Knowledge and understanding of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of risk assessment and safety planning for victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills that put people at ease
  • Proven crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations
  • Ability to be person centred, trustworthy, flexible and solution focused
  • Ability to travel locally, and occasionally cross county
  • Access to own car with full UK driving licence for work purposes
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Candidates will be required to pass police vetting.
