Changing my behaviour

December 3, 2021

Acknowledging that your behaviour might be abusive is a difficult process. West Sussex Connect offers programmes that can help address anti-social behaviours. Our Behavioural Change Programmes can have dramatic and positive impacts on relationships. Below are words from someone who went through our training.

We asked one of our clients to tell us about his Behavioural Change Programme, and the progress he has made.

What difference has attending a Behavioural Change Programme made to you?

Arguments have gone down by about 80%.  Arguments are now replaced with negotiations to ensure my wife and I are both happy with decisions we make together.  Listening skills have increased and I’m able to understand things from wife’s point of view. I have seen various changes in my wife’s behaviour in positive ways.  “Window of tolerance” and “time out” are very rarely needed because our arguments don’t go that far anymore because we both understand when to react and how to react in those situations.  We understand and appreciate each other more.

What would you say to other men who need help to address their behaviours in relation to domestic abuse?

Anger is not a solution for any issues whatsoever you have.  It’s not too late to learn to control your anger and there is absolutely no harm in trying something new to solve your issues.  I am not Mr Perfect but I really am happier after learning a few things from Connect.

When you speak to someone from Connect, make sure you explain the issues in detail and carefully listen to what they say. Anything you don’t understand, just ask them to explain a little more.  I can promise you that you too will soon start to see happiness in your family

If you or someone you know wants to work on their own behaviour please contact us. connect@theyoutrust.org.uk
