Cleaning up Cosham

June 22, 2021

Richard feels more connected and independent by cleaning up Cosham, which allows for a better quality of life.

Into Work is a service funded by Portsmouth City Council that supports adults with learning disabilities. The service helps adults find placements in paid work, volunteering and training opportunities.

Since February 2021 Richard has been working for Ground Control. His responsibilities include making the area a safer and nicer looking space by removing litter and trash. He is doing well, keeping busy and also enjoys his job. Commenting on this, he said:

I enjoy my new job, it gets me out and keeps me busy. Ground Control are a really good employer

Ground Control, an award-winning company that keeps outdoor spaces safe and maintained, contacted Portsmouth City Council as they wanted to specifically employ someone with a learning disability. Working with organisations like Into Work, the company has employed someone with a learning disability in the past with positive outcomes.

Anthony Facey, Ground Control Contracts Manager said:

When I first reached out to the into work team, I was pleased with how quickly they responded to my enquiry. They put Richard forward for the role, he’s a lovely man. He is keen and does a fantastic job for our client on this site. Welcome Richard, to the Ground Control Family!

Richard is cleaning up Cosham and it has given him more confidence and independence. If you are a business operating in Portsmouth or the surrounding areas, and would like to find out more about our service, please email
