Do you see me is the theme of this year’s Learning Disability Week and was chosen by Mencap. It encourages us to ask ourselves ‘do we see, hear and value those with learning disabilities. We have spoken to the people we work with to learn more about what they do. We hop you’ll read on and enjoy learning a little about Lucy.
Every Monday Lucy goes to Community Link. Staff drive her in her new motability car to Farnborough Library. Lucy meets with her friends to do activities like cooking, playing games or going into Farnborough for lunch. She also enjoys day trips out to Alton.
Staff pick Lucy up at 3pm and bring her back to Millmount. Lucy then helps to tidy her room and also to prepare for dinner. She is able to lay the table and get her plate and cup ready.
On Tuesday’s Lucy goes with Malcolm and Gemma to Greenham Business Park to attend her day service with Diamond Care.
She does arts and crafts, cooking and enjoys meeting up with all of her new friends. Two staff need to go so that Malcolm can travel in his motability car specially equipped for his wheelchair. Lucy and Gemma travel in her car. This goes on until 2.30pm , then it’s a drive back to Millmount.
Wednesday is another day at Community Link. Thursday is Diamond Care and Friday is Lucy’s final visit to Community Link for the week.
Saturday Lucy gets picked up at 10am to spend the day with her mum and dad. And on Sunday Lucy has her one-to-one day out.
