Each year we celebrate Learning Disability week because it’s an important way to educate people. There is a lot of misinformation and general uncertainty around many marginalised groups. And those with learning disabilities are often misunderstood. Which is why our managers and support workers take this opportunity to show off the hobbies of the people they work with.
This year’s theme is ‘Do you see me’, which we thought was a perfect opportunity to encourage some fun and games! Our teams asked residents to think up some fun ways to let the world know what they get up to. And we think you’ll agree they have a blast!
Below are some selected items that showcase the wonderful things the people we work with have accomplished. This includes becoming more indepenant in their lives. Of course, we have to thank the amazing support staff for all their hard work too!
In fact, July is Good Care Month. A month where we celebrate support and care workers, so this is perfectly timed! We work with around 560 people with learning disabilities, and our care team are amazing!
Of course, we don’t just do things during this week. The people we work with enjoy a varied lifestyle. Everyone needs something to look forward to, and variation in their lives. Let’s have a look at what some of our clients get up to!
Becoming more independent
Today we’re lucky enough to speak with Jo, who recently become more independent by moving into her own place.
Scales and shells fun
Waterlooville residents had a surprise visit from Michele who runs Scales and Shells!
On the last day of Learning Disability Week, our team headed to Fort Purbrook to fire some arrows! They enjoyed archery, and have another few weeks booked in.
