Today we’re speaking with Babatunde, who joined us in March 2024 as a support worker in our learning disabilities service.
What inspired you to choose an apprenticeship over other educational or career paths? (for example, why not do a LinkedIn course?)
I chose an apprenticeship over other educational paths because it offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working closely with experts in my field. Although, online courses like those on LinkedIn are good, but they only provide theoretical knowledge. Apprenticeship provides a real-world environment which will allow me to develop practical skills, network with professionals, and better understand the day-to-day challenges in my career.
What specific skills or experiences are you hoping to gain through this apprenticeship?
Through this apprenticeship, I’m hoping to further enhance my leadership and communication skills while deepening my understanding of person-centred care. I’m eager to gain more expertise in managing complex care needs and developing tailored care plans, as well as improving my ability to mentor and support my team.

How do you see this apprenticeship contributing to your long-term career goals?
I see this apprenticeship as a crucial step in advancing my career in adult care by helping me refine my leadership abilities and broaden my knowledge of best practices in care management. This apprenticeship will enable me to make a lasting impact on the sector through continuous professional development and a deeper commitment to improving care standards.
Can you share a moment or experience that solidified your decision to pursue an apprenticeship?
A key moment that solidified my decision to pursue an apprenticeship was during the Covid-19 pandemic when I was part of the team providing care during such a challenging period. This experience deepened my understanding of the complexities of adult care and reinforced my desire to continue growing in this field through an apprenticeship, where I can gain structured learning alongside real-world experience to better support both the people I care for and my team.
Any fears or doubts about doing an apprenticeship at first?
Yes. My fear was how to balance work life, practical experience with structured learning. But I got through it with Through good mentoring, structured routine, support from my employer, and reading resources from my trainer.
