The Shivery Bites Fundraiser is raising money to help keep our Cycling Without Age service going for another year. Shivery Bites are a group of people who meet throughout the year to go swimming in Southsea. Open water swimming is fun, and can have lots of social benefits! Their fundraising event took place in Southsea on the promenade, with many Shivery Bites members attending.
They are holding two events. One was on Friday 17 May and the next will be on the 25 May.
Cycling Without Age’s mission is to reduce social isolation and loneliness in Portsmouth and Hayling Island. By giving residents the opportunity to get out and about, it helps tackle social isolation. It gives riders the opportunity to engage with the younger generation, too.
The News were there to film and chat to us about why they are raising funds to help the Cycling Without Age service.
The sun was shining as pilots Debbie and Bob took out 11 people for some short taster rides.
‘We are humbled by amount of support we have received, particularly from our pilots Debbie and Bob who have been here since the beginning! It’s wonderful that the community can come together to help keep a service, which helps so many get out and about and enjoy the outdoors. I wish you all the best in your fundraising efforts! We are so grateful for the donations that we received! ’Karen Hobbs, Community Services and Business Development Manager.
Part 2 of the Shivery Bites Fundraiser will take place on the 25 May and will be in the form of a beach party! It’s open to all, from 10:00am to 12:30pm.
