Each year, from 7 – 11 November, is Trustees’ Week. A week where we celebrate the hard work that over 1 million trustees give of their free time. We recently held our first conference since 2019 and it meant many people were finally able to meet our trustees. With that in mind, we wanted to showcase our own Trustees and ask them some questions!
Trustee name: Marcia Nguyen
What attracted you to becoming a Trustee?
I’ve experience as a professional fundraiser in the charity sector and have been on a few volunteer boards. I was excited to join The YOU Trust in 2021. I was looking to gain new skills and understanding of a different type of charity to the one that I work in. And perhaps develop and offer my existing skills as well as. I am interested in being a critical friend at YOU – to provided support, listen and helped look at ways to improve and support the strategy work.
Why did you choose the You Trust?
I chose YOU as I was a school governor for a number of years and another governor happened to work at the charity. So, when I moved on from being a governor and started to look around for a Trustee role, I looked at the website and thought ‘why not?’ He also spoke highly of his role and the charity.
What have you learned so far?
What I have learned at The You Trust – it is a fabulous team with so many different talents and skill sets. I am learning about how bids are awarded by the different councils and how these impact the Trust, employees, clients and local services.
Favourite holiday destination?
As an American that has lived in the UK for 24 years – so would have to say – upstate New York/New England in Autumn. My parents still live there, and I love the crisp, autumn air and the vibrant colours on the trees.
