Today is the start of National Trustees week. This annual event highlights the fantastic work that our Trustees do. We want to thank you for volunteering your valuable time, and for your wisdom!
Trustees Week: Anne Ridley
As a new retiree I had energy to burn when I first moved from London to the South Coast, and was looking for something to fill the gap left by working full time as a professor in psychology.
Why did you choose The YOU Trust?
I heard about the social prescribing work run by YOU Trust in my local area, checked the organisation out online and just liked their values and portfolio of services, several of which fitted in well with my psychology background.
What have you learnt so far?
Joining the trust coincided with the COVID crisis, making me largely a ‘virtual’ trustee so far. Despite that I’ve learned so much about how charities work and about some of the challenges that face vulnerable people and the support that they deserve. I’m so glad we are sometimes face-to-face once again, most recently at the launch of our Cycling Without Age service in Portsmouth. Great fun!
What is your favourite holiday location and why?
In the UK I love Exmoor – its beautiful coastline and wild interior. If I were ever to go travelling again, a repeat visit to New Zealand is a possibility. It reminded me of Exmoor but on a larger scale!
