As part of our celebrations for National Trustees week, we are profiling our own. We wanted to celebrate the work they do by getting to know them each a little better. Today we profile Emma Giles!
Trustees Week: Emma Giles
I’m a Mauritian who immigrated to England 12 years ago. I’ve had the opportunity to build a life that I am proud of and that allows me to thrive. So I wanted to give back to the community that helped build me up. Also, I wanted to play a small part in giving others happier independent lives.
Why did you choose The YOU Trust?
I didn’t choose YOU, YOU chose me! The minute I started reading all the wonderful, life changing work YOU did I was sold and praying to be chosen to join the family.
What have you learnt so far?
I’ve learnt that I’ve got so much to learn! I’m very excited and slightly nervous to be going on some visits soon. I can’t wait to meet some of the YOU team and learn from them whilst also engaging with community members first hand. I also look forward to hearing all the stories they feel comfortable sharing with me. I want to be an advocate for everyone we help and for everyone out there tirelessly helping. So, I will have my listening ears on for sure!
What is your favourite holiday location and why?
I am a huge Beatrix Potter fan and loved going up to the Lake District a few years ago. I’m also a bit of an avid collector of all things Beatrix Potter and have had no qualms in keeping all my items pristinely wrapped and unused despite being the very proud mum to a little 13 month old!
