Essential Requirements
The appointed Therapeutic Play Worker will:
- Hold an NNEB, BTEC in Early Childhood Development or similar Level 3 qualification
- Experience of working with families affected by Domestic Abuse
- At least 1 years’ experience of supporting children and families
- Must have a valid full UK driving licence

The Role
The overall purpose of this role is to work with children and young people (CYP) who reside in a refuge or safe house/sanctuary accommodation or within the community, and who are experiencing family domestic abuse, and/or who are harming a family member.
You will carry out appropriate assessments, working in partnership with the other Somerset Domestic Abuse Services teams to ensure a holistic response.
You will complete/review DASH young people’s risk assessments, working with colleagues to design and provide one to one session’s as required, whether in community safe housing or accommodation-based settings. You are responsible for safeguarding the people you work with, and raising alerts as required. All interventions will have a therapeutic gain for the child/young person
The appointed Therapeutic Play Worker will:
- NNEB, Therapeutic qualification/experience or NVQ 3 in working with children qualification or equivalent work level experience
- Experience of working with children, and those affected by domestic violence and abuse
- Understanding of the issues affecting children who have experienced domestic violence and abuse
- Understanding and commitment to diversity and inclusion responsibilities
- Knowledge of Safeguarding issues and processes for children
- Knowledge of child and adolescence development
- Ability to relate well with children and young people
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to respond positively to challenging behaviour
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents and children in distress
- Willingness to participate in development programmes to maintain knowledge and skills required
- Skilled at IT, including Microsoft Office packages and ability to keep records and write reports
- Ability to work as part of an on call rota
- Ability to work across the county and travel to other Trust locations when necessary
