YOU Counselling is an inclusive and easy-to-access counselling service for all adults aged 18+ who live, study, work, or volunteer in or around Portsmouth. We offer a welcoming environment where you can talk about the things that are stopping you from living the life you want.
Our team of friendly, professional volunteer student counsellors will listen without judgement and help you explore what is happening in your life. Together, we help you understand your feelings, find ways to cope, and support you to move forward.
Who we support
YOU Counselling is open to adults (18+) in:
- Portsmouth
- Fareham
- Gosport
- Havant
Our counsellors can support you if you have experience with, but not limited to:
- Anxiety and low mood
- Mental health challenges
- Developing healthier coping skills
- Substance use concerns
- Relationship or family difficulties
- Life changes, stress or uncertainty
- Bereavement or loss
- Low confidence and self-esteem

2. Once your referral has been received
Once your referral has been received, you will be added onto our waiting list and our clinical team will review your case to start creating a plan for support to be tailored for you.
3. Attend an initial appointment
Once a counsellor has been allocated to you, your first appointment will be arranged with them.
This first session is free. It helps you decide whether counselling feels right for you and whether we can support the changes you want to make.
4. Begin counselling at a low cost
We offer affordable fees so counselling is accessible to everyone. Our service is client-led, which means you choose what you want to talk about and what support you need.
Please note that we offer 13 sessions of counselling (including the initial assessment).
5. Once counselling ends
Once your sessions have come to an end, you can have the choice of joining our community support groups.
If you feel that you may need further support form our service then you can re-refer back into the service 6-months after your case closure date.
