Open water swimming is growing in popularity as a way to increase confidence as well as wellbeing. It’s part of Social Prescribing and is a great deal of fun!
It gets you outside, encourages you to meet new people and it can be great for your health! However, it’s not something that should be done alone, as swimming in the open always carries with it a risk. Which is why we always have an instructor and plan ahead.
It’s always exciting to see a new program take off. And that’s exactly what happened with the Open Water Swim Introduction session. The turnout was fantastic, and everyone was eager to get started on this new adventure. The session began with a brief introduction to the program and what participants could expect over the next eight weeks.
One of the most unique aspects of the session was the patience exercise which involved participants decorating a pebble. This exercise helped to calm nerves and allowed everyone to focus on the present moment. And at the end of the session, each participant threw their pebble into the sea. They wrote a single word to give feedback on the experience so far.
The positive energy and enthusiasm in the group was infectious. It was clear that everyone was excited to dive into the program (pun intended).
Swimming to learn
Over the next eight weeks, participants will be learning a range of skills while enjoying their open water swimming. These include;
- how to navigate open water
- managing breathing
- improving their overall swimming technique
With such a successful start to the program, it’s clear that the Open Water Swim course is going to be a fantastic experience for everyone involved. We can’t wait to see how these participants progress over the next eight weeks and the incredible things they will achieve.
A special thank you to Energise Me and Southcoast PCN for funding to make this possible.
