In the small village of Hordle, a group of people we work with meet three times a week. They travel in from the surrounding areas and meet with their support workers to participate in what they call ‘The Project’.
This sounds like something from a James Bond movie, or perhaps a John le Carré novel. But it’s nothing so sinister! In fact, under the supervision of support partners Polly Dennis, Linda Polidano and Gary Fountain, wonderful crafts are made.
Our support partners come from all over the New Forest; from Limington to Ringwood and New Milton. Their aim is to offer the best lived experience for people with learning disabilities, while keeping them active. It’s important that those we work with get the best living experience possible.
We know that to keep a healthy mind you need to get out and interact with others. The added benefit of this is that social stigmas are confronted and dispelled. And it’s great fun!
Using materials, like used pallets, pine combes and fabric, members of The Project make tables, birdboxes and decorations. These are sold to the public and the money raised goes into funding future activities. In fact, because of the location of the hall, they often meet dog walkers. These curious wanderers often buy items that haven’t even been finished, which is very supportive.
Supporting The Project
Recently, The Project received a donation of £1,500 from the Lymington Waitrose community fund. This generous donation will be used to buy a shed to store all the crafts that they make. It’ll help with being able to sell outdoors when the summertime comes.
If you’d like to donate to help the people we work with, contact us or hit the donate button!
Many thanks to Hordle Parish Council for the use of their hall.
